Abbey Reviews (9-8-99):
This CD comes as close to cosmic consciousness as mortals dare! John Sosnowsky (Sozra) leads us through the four elements through the universe and beyond. In two compositions of about 25 minutes in length Sozra explores 'Earth' and Space', running the gamut of the gradations of feeling found in uniting with nature from the ground up to the cosmos.

In 'Earth' he employs flutes from various cultures, an Aztec wood drum, chimes, bells, and guitar to paint the most stirring portrait of our home planet I have ever heard. The moods flow from the haunts of primative man to the flowing waters and wooden abode of the undines and gnomes. One is left so full of the wonder of Earth that there is no place else to go but 'Space'.

'Space' utilizes synthesizers, clay drums, bamboo flute, stone chimes, bass clarinet, and soprano sax to raise us to the element of air, then the planets, and on to the fire of the stars and cosmos.

In both selections, the music is best absorbed in a state of meditation, but it also makes an un paralleled cosmic background for work and play. Guest musician, Bruce Fransen is most elevating on the soprano sax as his rolling strains raise us from one element to the next. Sozra is a painter with music who has reached a new plateau in freeing us from the confines of melody and rhythm to reach for the stars and galaxies of being. He integrates nature sounds with heart-felt, mood-setting strains. Earth Space Continuum is as close to nature as you can get without getting out into it. (copyright 1999)
