Abbey Reviews, 1-23-00:
At last--a clear, simple, americanized version of hatha yoga. Certified and experienced yoga instructor, Lisa Trivell has put together a large selection of poses accessible to beginninners with lucid descriptions, benefits, and a great abundance of pictures. Hindu names for poses are avoided in favor of English descriptive names.
She has a way of presenting the process in the least intimidating fashion. From breathing to stretches, from beginning to intermediate, from diet to relaxation, the author always encourages, and communicates the joy and healing power of what she deomonstrates. The poses are presented first, and then several forms of the sun salutation, which is a full routine in itself. Then she strings together 4 routines for the western lifestyle: a 10 minute morning wakeup, 10 minute runner's workout, 20 minute evening destresser, and 5 minute office revitalization workout. Many of the poses are manageable from a seated position and may be done even at the computer.
Her dietary information emphasizes moderation and balanced nutrition, outlining the types of foods that provide a scientific balance of vitamins and minerals. This is true yoga for modern life and belief systems. In short, Lisa Trivell has created an invaluable resource for those who want to learn yoga as quickly, safely, and enjoyably as possible.
